GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) –Two people were killed when a motorcycle crashed into a semi-truck in Grand Rapids Monday night.
According to a press release from police, the crash happened on Pearl Street near Mt. Vernon Avenue NW and US-131 around 10:50 p.m.
Police said a semi-truck was traveling southbound on Mt. Vernon through a green light when two motorcycles heading westbound on Pearl Street ran a red light. The first motorcycle made it through the intersection, but the second motorcycle crashed into the side of the semi-truck.
A 25-year-old man and a 26-year-old woman, who were riding the same motorcycle, were both pronounced dead at the scene. The victims were not wearing helmets, according to police. The names of the victims are not being released until family has been notified.
The driver of the semi-truck was not injured.
